Straub Techs machining process of an OEM core SBC block involves pressure testing and a 10 point inspection.  After a block passes inspection, the block is cleaned and prepped for machining.  We fixture the block and probe it verify deck height and squareness on our Rottler 4 Axis CNC to ensure optimal head sealing. Blocks are square decked to maintain equal deck heights on the block.  The main bearing saddles verified on the machine and if needed line-honed or align-bored to achieve proper crankshaft alignment and oil clearance. Cylinder bore geometry is checked and then cylinders are machined and then honed to final size on our Rottler HP85AX Hone to final size using a torque plate for accurate ring seal under operating conditions. We verify this with a profilometer and TraceBoss software.  Final cleaning to remove all machining debris is done in an Ultrasonic machine. We then primer the block and install cam bearings and freeze plugs.   Your block is now ready for you to do final cleaning and assembly.

Tech Tip:   Use our cylinder head section to choose how much power you want for your build.  A good rule of thumb for Pump Gas Builds  is to take your HP goal and divide it by the CID to see what it will take to get you what you want:

Below 1.3 HP per Cube or lower….Very mild can burn 89 octane.  Example a 383 at 1.3HP per cube is 498HP.

1.4 HP per Cube  Must use 91 octane or higher.  Dyno testing highly recommended.

1.5 HP per Cube.  Must use 93 octane ONLY.  Dyno testing is a must.

Rotating Kits

Made from 4340 Chrome moly Steel, our cranks are heat treated and nitride for strength.  Journals have a large filet radius to prevent cracking under high loads.  Our rods are 4340 H Beam and feature ARP 2000 rod bolts with 7/16” cap screws.  Rods are pin fitted at our facility to your piston set.   We use CP, JE, Mahle, and Icon with our kits.  These manufactures all make high quality pistons and are the brands we trust at Straub Tech.  We will pin fit your piston set at our facility to ensure proper clearance.   All balancing is done on our CWT5500 and you are supplied your balance sheet with work order number.  All assemblies are internal balance
