Straub Tech works with select core suppliers when sourcing BBC OEM blocks for performance engine builds. Each core is thoroughly inspected for cracks, corrosion, and sonic tested to verify cylinder wall thickness, especially critical for high-horsepower applications or over boring. Once a viable core is selected, it is cleaned, checked for cracks, and dimensionally checked. Machining is done on a 4 Axis Rottler CNC where the block deck, cylinders and mainline are probed and compared to factory spec.  From these readings we determine what the block needs and begin the machining processes of decking the block for flatness and uniform height, and boring/honing the cylinders with torque plates to ensure precise ring seal under load. The goal is to transform a used OEM casting into a reliable, high-performance foundation capable of withstanding the extreme loads and temperatures of modern racing and power adder builds.

How much Power do I want and what gas can I run?

Tech Tp:   Use our cylinder head section to choose how much power you want for your build.  A good rule of thumb for Pump Gas Builds  is to take your HP goal and divide it by the CID to see what it will take to get you what you want:

Below 1.3 HP per Cube or lower….Very mild can burn 89 octane.  Example a 383 at 1.3HP per cube is 498HP.

1.4 HP per Cube  Must use 91 octane or higher.  Dyno testing highly recommended.

1.5 HP per Cube.  Must use 93 octane ONLY.  Dyno testing is a must.

These blocks have been baked, jet washed and checked for cracks.  They are fully machined at our facility and have had ARP Main bolts installed.  Final cleaning is done in our Ultrasonic cleaner then cam bearings and brass freeze plugs are installed.  Each block is primer coated with engine primer.  Cam bearings are test fitted for camshaft fitment so bearings may show signs of this.  Max Stroke 4.250.

Your getting a machined BLUEPRINTED OEM block from Straub Tech.  Your block is being machined based on the factory blueprint from GM.  Dimensionally your getting a near perfect block just as GM designed.

BBC Build Your Own Rotating Kits

Made from 4340 Chrome moly Steel, our cranks are heat treated and nitrided for strength.  Journals have a large filet radius to prevent cracking under high loads.  When you compare our cranks to other brands you will see the difference in our product.  Our rods are 4340 H Beam and feature ARP 2000 rod bolts with 7/16” cap screws.  Rods are pin fitted at our facility to your piston set.   We use CP, JE, Mahle, and Icon with our kits.  These manufactures all make high quality pistons and are the brands we trust at Straub Tech.  We will pin fit your piston set at our facility to ensure proper clearance.   All balancing is done on our CWT5500 and you are supplied your balance sheet with work order number.  All assemblies are internal balance
