Straub Tech has accounts with Summit, Dart, and World for BBC Aftermarket blocks for performance engine builds. Once you choose your brand of block, Straub Tech takes over and dimensionally checks your block on a 4 Axis Rottler CNC where the block deck, cylinders and mainline, and lifter bores are probed and compared to factory spec.  From these readings we determine what the block needs and begin the machining processes of decking the block for flatness and uniform height, and boring/honing the cylinders with torque plates to ensure precise ring seal under load. All std decks clearance for up to 4.375 Stroke.  All Tall decks stroker clearance for up to 4.750” Stroke. Optional machining of larger lifter bores and larger cam tunnel are also available.  The goal is to transform this aftermarket casting into a reliable, high-performance foundation capable of withstanding the extreme loads and temperatures of modern racing and power adder builds.

READ CAREFULLY: WE DO NOT BUY BLOCKS THAT ONLY NEED HONING.  WE START WITH A 4.245” BORE BLOCK AS THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO ENSURE THE BORE GEOMETRY IS CORRECT TO THE CRANK CENTERLINE.  WE HAVE SEEN AFTERMARKET BLOCKS WITH THE CYLINDERS OFF BY AS MUCH AS .060’.  BY DOING IT OUR WAY YOU’RE GETTING A BETTER PRODUCT!!!!!

How much Power do I want and what gas can I run?

Tech Tp:   Use our cylinder head section to choose how much power you want for your build.  A good rule of thumb for Pump Gas Builds is to take your HP goal and divide it by the CID to see what it will take to get you what you want:

Below 1.3 HP per Cube or lower…. Very mild can burn 89 octane.  Example a 383 at 1.3HP per cube is 498HP.

1.4 HP per Cube Must use 91 octane or higher.  Dyno testing highly recommended.

1.5 HP per Cube.  Must use 93 octanes ONLY.  Dyno testing is a must.

Above 1.5 Race Gas, E85, or Methanol must be used.

Pistons: Forged Piston Kits from CP/Icon/JE/Mahle including pins and the latest in Ring technology.

Cranks: 4340 Nitride Cranks with large filet radius and exceptional Journal finish only found with the national brands.  All strokes over 4” feature center counterweights for max resistance to flex.   An overkill for some builds but our customers deserve the best.

Rods: 4340 H-Beam Rods with Bushed pin end and featuring ARP 2000 bolts for added endurance.

Bearings: We use King bearing as they are the only aircraft certified engine bearing supplier in the performance industry.
